Today the longest serving Republican-endorsed legislator in state history has announced his retirement. Senator Warren Limmer (R- Maple Grove) gave notice today, concluding a distinguished career spanning 38 years in the Minnesota Legislature dedicated to conservative values, accountable government, and public safety. First elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 1988, Limmer was elected to the state Senate in a Special Election in 1995 and re-elected nine other times.
“After serving the people in our area for 38 years in the Minnesota Legislature, I have decided to retire from my office in the Senate at the end of this year,” Senator Limmer said. “I have been greatly honored that the public has trusted me to be their voice in Minnesota government since 1988.”
Throughout his tenure, the outspoken senator has been a steadfast advocate for efficient, limited, and accountable government. Senator Limmer’s special legislative concerns include criminal justice, civil law, safe school legislation, privacy protection of citizens and transparency in government.
Senator Limmer has held key leadership roles, including serving as Chair of the Senate Judiciary and Public Safety Committee during times the Republicans held majority membership in the Senate; and is the current Ranking Minority Member on the same committee. He has also held Senate leadership positions that included Assistant Majority Leader and President Pro Tempore.
“I do not plan on going silently into retirement. I have too much experience to stay quiet. I plan to stay involved in Minnesota’s political process,” said Senator Limmer.
